I received an email this morning from Uptin Saiidi, a millennial producer for “Power Lunch” on CNBC. I had been on CNBC before on their “Street Signs” program doing a piece about millennial retention. Today’s segment was on how unprepared millennials are for the working world. Also joining me for the segment was Kelley Holland, who had covered one of my previous students from last year so I knew I was in good hands. I got to tour the CNBC headquarters which I was very impressed with over all other networks I’ve been to thus far in my career. It was an open floor, with about five employees sitting at each office space based on the individual shows they were working on.
Uptin showed me the control room, the floor and other areas of the building. The segment happened lightening quick, partially because Tyler Mathisen, the anchor, was sharp and conversational, and partially because Kelley and I know our content. The segment lasted just over two minutes long, now that’s what you call a power lunch! After the segment, Kelley, Uptin and I had a great conversation about millennials, their behaviors and the future. Jason Gewirtz, the Executive Producer, came over and was excited about the outcome of the segment and wants me to be their “voice of the millennials” moving forward, which is very exciting. Before I left, I had lunch with Uptin and noticed immediately that they had a ping pong table in their cafeteria. By the look of it, I doubt anyone has ever used it but it’s cool to see a company stay fresh and connected with their millennial talent base.
