Career Risks Pay Off
In my personal opinion, in order to get ahead in your career, you first need to get your head in the game. Now, I’m not talking about worrying and agonizing over which move you think is right for you. I’m talking about thinking clearly and being honest with yourself about what you want to accomplish in your career. It’s just as important to learn and master skills as it is to believe in yourself and know you have the ability to accomplish whatever you set your mind to. A winning attitude will shine through as you move forward with your career; it’s something you will carry with you and something your employer should notice.
If you feel confident, others will be confident in you and your ability to lead. Anyone can do a job, but not everyone does a job well, with the right attitude, and with the determination to learn more and do more at a company. As a young professional, it is extremely important to show up to work each day with your head in the game. You have to be ready to win and ready to take the risks necessary to get ahead.
Taking a risk at work is scary because it’s unknown. But, if you feel comfortable enough to take risks, I strongly believe that you should take them. I recently took a risk and made a shift in my career path. I went from a full time staff position on a live TV show, to a freelance spot on a new reality show. It took me a few days to decide what to do, but ultimately, I knew deep down what I wanted to do, and what I should do. This is an opportunity to grow my skills. This is an opportunity to do more and push my career forward. I’m learning a lot in this new position and I firmly belief that if I did not take this risk, I would have wondered the forever daunting question of what might have been?
Finding a job is extremely competitive and keeping a job means even more competition in the workplace. Everyone wants to be the best. Everyone wants that promotion. Everyone wants to be number one. That’s why it’s so important to get your head in the game. You must believe in yourself to have the confidence to do what’s necessary to stand out and, ultimately, succeed.
